Man gets 23½ months in prison for stabbing
A 26-year-old man will spend up to 23½ months in the Butler County prison for stabbing another man with a kitchen knife.
John Patrick Conley III, who has no known address, was sentenced Feb. 19 by county Judge Tim McCune.
According to court records, the stabbing occurred April 2 in the 200 block of North Elm Street. The victim was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for a stab wound to his upper back and later released, according to court records.
Prosecutors initially charged Conley with attempted murder, but that charge was dropped on two occasions. It was initially dismissed when the victim failed to appear at a preliminary hearing. The charge was refiled later but dismissed again in January, when Conley entered a plea arrangement with the county district attorney’s office.
Under the terms of the agreement, Conley pleaded guilty to simple assault and flight to avoid prosecution, in a separate but related case.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors recommended a total prison sentence of 11½ to 23½ month county time as plus two years of probation.
Conley already has credit for more than 240 days of time he served before resolution of this case, but he also must complete a three-month prison reintegration program before he will be eligible for parole. While on parole, he must continue mental health treatments.
Conley’s attorney Michael Jewart of Butler declined to comment.
