Butler Police release photo of armed robbery suspect
Butler City police have released a photo of the man wearing a Halloween mask who fired a warning shot from a handgun while robbing the Cheap Tobacco Outlet store on Pillow Street on Oct. 23.
The suspect approached the store on foot around 7:36 p.m. and entered wearing light-colored sweat pants, a hoodie and a full-face Halloween mask, police said.
He calmly walked to the cash register carrying a blue and black backpack, placed the pack on the counter, pulled a black pistol from it and fired a warning shot into the wall near employees, police said. A 9mm bullet casing was recovered.
Police said they believe the suspect wore the sweat pants and shirt as an outer layer of clothing that he could have removed after the robbery. Investigators tried to trace the purchase of the mask, but were not successful, police added.
According to police, employees reported the robbery was a Black man, having seen his skin behind the eye holes in the mask and on his wrists. The suspect is further described by police as 5 feet, 8 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a stocky build.
Police ask anyone with information about the suspect to contact Lt. Chad Rensel at 724-287-7743 ext. 213.
