BUTLER TWP — Once Seneca Valley grabbed the momentum, victory soon followed.

Mike Chowansky scored the game-tying goal with 13:25 remaining and Andrew Danylo tallied the game-winner seven minutes later as the Raiders scored a come-from-behind 2-1 boys soccer victory at Butler Saturday night.

The win kept Seneca Valley (9-1, 5-0) unbeaten and in first place in Section 2-AAA.

The Raiders have won six straight games, outscoring the opposition 27-5 during that stretch.

"This is a big one because it is so tough for visiting teams to win here," SV coach George Williams said. "We weren't getting a whole lot of chances to score."

The game was scoreless at halftime. The Golden Tornado (2-4-3, 0-3-1), grabbed a 1-0 lead with 29:33 left in the contest when Regis Collins drilled in a rebound after SV goalkeeper Jordan Case stopped a penalty shot by Roberto DaSilva, but could not control the ball.

Some confusion on a throw-in led to the Raiders' first goal.

"We thought it was our throw-in and when the official ruled otherwise, we were caught out of position a little bit," Butler coach Troy Mohney said. "But their guys made a great crossing pass and header.

"That was a beautiful goal."

Off the throw-in, SV's Ryan Vilella delivered a crossing pass to Chowansky, who was approximately 15 yards in front of the Butler net.

Chowansky headed the ball over goalkeeper Kevin Knechtel's head, the ball dropping in just under the crossbar to knot the game.

Vilella assisted on both Raider goals.

"Ryan is very accurate on those passes," Williams said. "That header was perfectly placed. That goal changed the direction of this game."

Vilella sent a pass ahead of Danylo and a Butler defender — deftly enough that Knechtel could not come out and get the ball — and Danylo took possession.

The senior forward got his shot off from just to the right of the net before the defender could bump him off the ball.

"That (defender) was right there with me," Danylo said. "I just booked it to get to the ball and had to get a shot off fast. I've scored about three goals like that this year."

Knechtel got his fingertips on the ball, but could not prevent the goal.

"It's frustrating, what we've been going through lately," Mohney said. "We've been in every one of our section games but one. We're playing well enough to win, but it's not happening.

"We need some bounces to start going our way. We need to get some results to go with our effort."

Butler is winless in its last six games, scoring only four goals in those contests.

The Tornado had a couple of chances to tie the game late, but Sean Bernardi's shot from point-blank range was stopped by Case with four minutes left and Adam Suter's deflection in front of the net was snared by Case as well.

Suter leads Butler with five goals on the season.

Both teams wound up with seven shots on goal. Butler had three corner kicks in the second half, Seneca Valley two in the first half.

Chowansky's goal was his second of the year for the Raiders. Danylo scored his fifth goal and Vilella now has five assists.

Ten different players have scored goals for SV so far this year. Ryan Mershimer leads the team with five goals and six assists.

"We've got three solid scorers, but the other guys have filled in on the scoresheet when needed," Williams said.

Butler hosts Shaler Tuesday while Seneca Valley travels to Quaker Valley.
