Police say man robbed father's business
Surveillance footage helped identify the suspect who allegedly broke into an auto repair shop and stole a car this week, Butler police said.
The man captured on video taking the vehicle from Gary Seybert Sr.'s business was his son, according to court documents.
Police said 40-year-old Gary John Seybert Jr. subsequently admitted to the crime about 1 a.m. Monday at the Full Service Auto Center on Pillow Street.
District Judge William Fullerton on Tuesday arraigned Seybert, who has no known address, on felony charges of burglary and theft. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail following arraignment.
Seybert Sr. told police that on Monday he discovered that one of his customer's vehicles, a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, had been taken, documents said.
He also found that someone had gotten into his shop by forcing open a back window.
He and Patrolman Nathan Shulik eventually reviewed footage from a security camera that showed Seybert removing the Chevy Impala, documents said.
Shulik in his affidavit said that during an interview at the police station the defendant “did admit to breaking the rear window of the business and entering. Once inside he was able to remove the vehicle from the business.”
The car apparently has not been recovered, police said.
Seybert's preliminary hearing is set for June 25.
