City man hit by truck

A city man was injured late Thursday night after he apparently backed into the path of a pickup truck while walking in Butler, authorities said. Dominic Edwards, 33, suffered minor injuries when he was hit by the truck at Zeigler and Center avenues about 11 p.m. He was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. Joseph D. Nagel, 18, of Summit Township told police that he was southbound on Center Avenue and was turning left onto Zeigler Avenue when he suddenly noticed Edwards, and was unable to stop his Nissan Frontier in time.

The older man said he was crossing Zeigler Avenue and was near the sidewalk curb when he saw the headlights of the truck. He admitted he back pedaled and was struck, according to a police report.

He also acknowledged having three beers that night, the last one at around 9:20 p.m.

No charges were filed in the accident.
