Wood-burner many have sparked garage fire

A structure fire in Cherry Township destroyed a car and damaged parts of a detached garage Tuesday night.

Multiple crews responded to the fire at 307 Hungarian Road shortly before 10 p.m.

“It was a three-stall garage and started in the wood-burner area,” Fire Chief Ryan Hanchosky of Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire and Rescue Co. said. “We had it contained to around the wood-burner area and most of the attic area, but we were able to save, I would say, 80% of his stuff.”

No injuries were reported at the scene, and a damage estimate was not available.

Other volunteer fire companies responding to the call were West Sunbury, Unionville, Marion Township, Clintonville and Harrisville. Slippery Rock Ambulance also was on scene.
