Police arrest man accused of sexually assaulting girl
Butler police Wednesday arrested a city man on charges he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl.
Robert Leonard Scott, 40, is accused of assaulting the child on more than one occasion between Sept. 28 and Oct. 2 at his home on West Diamond Street, authorities said.
Scott is charged with four counts of aggravated indecent assault, a felony, and four counts of indecent assault, a misdemeanor. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail.
Police Sgt. Ben Spangler on Tuesday spoke to the girl, who described the assaults in detail. She said the defendant had sex with her, according to court documents.
The officer the following day interviewed Scott at the police station. He admitted to sexually assaulting the girl Sept. 28. He claimed that she initiated it, documents said.
But when Spangler told the defendant that the girl accused him of assaulting her more than once, “he indicated that he was unable to remember,” according to the officer’s affidavit.
Spangler pressed Scott about a second alleged sexual assault on Sunday, but the suspect ended the interview and asked to speak to an attorney.
Scott’s preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 17. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
