Just a day after state police Troop D, which is based in Butler County, unveiled its “Five Most Wanted” suspects initiative, they nabbed one of their targets.

Cassady J. Eckelberger, 23, of Portersville was arrested Wednesday on a felony warrant in connection with a 2017 alleged drunken driving vehicle assault in Mercer County.

Police had been looking for her since obtaining an arrest warrant in May 2018. She was arraigned on a list of charges and released on $25,000 unsecured bail.

Because Eckelberger was so hard to find, police picked her as one of its five most sought after criminal suspects in the new law enforcement effort they announced Tuesday.

The initiative, said Trooper Ron Kesten, marked the first time Troop D has used the most-wanted format to elicit the public's help in tracking down suspects.

The troop comprises Butler, Armstrong, Beaver, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

Kesten noted that police came up with the list of most wanted based on the suspects' success in avoiding capture — not on their danger to the public.

Eckelberger is accused of being nearly 2½ times the state's legal limit for alcohol on Aug. 25, 2017, when police say she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree along Courtney Mill Road in Liberty Township near the Mercer-Butler County line.

She and her passenger, Danielle Pawlowicz, both were hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

An ambulance crew had to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Pawlowicz, according to court documents.

Toxicology results from a blood draw subsequently showed Eckelberger's blood-alcohol level was 0.196 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

On Wednesday, District Judge Neil McEwen arraigned the defendant on felony charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence and accidents involving injury while not properly licensed.

She also is charged with misdemeanor counts of DUI and reckless endangerment as well as seven traffic violations.
