Butler police nab man, 19, on drug charges
A police call for a fight in Butler ended with a city man jailed on felony drug charges, authorities said.
Butler police said they found Maximillian W. Halterman, 19, of Butler with nearly one-half ounce of cocaine Wednesday night.
Halterman was arrested for felony drug possession and for a pair of unrelated warrants and placed in the Butler County Prison.
Police about 10:25 p.m. were called for a fight in the 300 block of Franklin Street. One of the suspected combatants flagged down a responding officer in a cruiser, claiming Halterman had a gun.
A short time later, police stopped the defendant’s car on Rattigan Street. Officers found no gun but a search turned up a plastic bag filled with suspected powder cocaine in one of Halterman’s pants pockets, said police Sgt. Ron Fundark.
The contents weighed 11.7 grams, or 0.41 ounces, according to court documents.
Fundark noted that police later determined the suspect had a suspended driver’s license and he also was wanted on two warrants.
One of the warrants was for an alleged felony theft in Clearfield Township in January, court records showed. State police earlier this year obtained a warrant for Halterman in the case.
The Butler County Sheriff’s Office also had a bench warrant for the suspect in a separate case.
Halterman was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor drug possession in connection with Wednesday’s arrest. He also was cited for disorderly conduct and driving with a suspended license.
Additionally, he was arraigned on felony counts of theft, conspiracy to commit theft, and receiving stolen property, in connection with the state police case.
He is in prison on $60,000 bail.
Fundark, meanwhile, said misdemeanor or summary charges are pending against three other men in connection with the original fight call Wednesday.
