2 Chilean immigrants plead guilty to theft
Two undocumented immigrants pleaded guilty on Tuesday to stealing a wallet that contained multiple credit cards with an available balance of more than $73,000.
Alfredo Lopez-Rojas, 30, and Kevin S. Mora-Paredes, 21, both of Chile, admitted they stole a wallet that was valued at $95 on July 12, along with $150 worth of merchandise. The cards in the wallet were from Nordstrom, Target, Citibank, Visa and Chase-Visa. Using the cards, the two racked up more than $2,000 worth of purchases from the Best Buy in Cranberry.
They were originally charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and several conspiracy charges, all of which are felonies. They each pleaded guilty to one conspiracy charge as part of a plea deal.Because of their undocumented status, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will move to deport both defendants, according to prosecutors and defense attorneys involved in the case.That process will begin once they are sentenced in Butler on Nov. 8.
