Two drivers face charges in drag-racing accident

One claims he was unconscious

EVANS CITY — Two men are being charged with a variety of driving violations after their suspected involvement in an alleged drag racing accident.

Michael Scott Russi, 28, of Harmony, is charged with suspicion of accidents involving death or personal injury, illegal racing, careless driving and reckless driving.

George Dale DiCicco II, 28, of Butler, is charged with suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, recklessly endangering another person, illegal racing, careless driving and reckless driving.

Both men appeared before District Judge Wayne Seibel in January and waived their cases to court.

According to a police report filed by Trooper David Naberezny of the Pennsylvania state police, the incident occurred on Reibold Road in Forward Township on Nov. 10, 2014.

Authorities responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident shortly after 11 p.m. involving a white Ford F-250 truck that was found overturned and a red Chevrolet S10 truck that had crashed off the road, according to the report.

DiCicco, the alleged driver of the Ford truck, and his passenger Timothy Goerl were found at the scene suffering from unknown injuries and were eventually transported to an area hospital.

Russi is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident. According to police reports, Russi said he passed out on a hillside after hitting his head in the accident. When he woke up, the vehicles were gone and he was later picked up on Route 68 by his sister.

On Nov. 11, he turned himself in and gave an interview at the state police barracks in Butler, according to the report.

Russi reportedly said that he, DiCicco and Goerl were consuming alcoholic beverages at TJ’s Hideaway in Evans City that night. After they left the accident occurred when DiCicco tried to pass him on Reibold Road, he said.

Both Russi and DiCicco are scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment on March 10.
