Both Seneca teams pin losses on Knoch
JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley track and field coach Wayne Roccia has come to expect solid performances from his boys competitors in the field.
On Tuesday afternoon, that group dominated the action, taking first place in all seven events as the Raiders defeated section rival Knoch, 95-55.
SV also prevailed in the girls meet by a score of 99-51.
Leading the way in the field were SV juniors Nick Mitro and Tim Miles.
Miles took the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 9 inches and the discus (142-7) while Nick Mitro won the pole vault at 9-6 and the long jump with a distance of 18-8.
"Tim has done so well for us in the shot and he's come around in the discus, too," said Roccia. "And Nick has been real solid for us as well."
Also winning two individual events for the Raiders (8-2) was sophomore Frank Campisino in the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.71 and 23.81 seconds, respectively.
Campisino teamed with Jon Scholl, Chris Eden and Bill Burns to place first in the 400 relay at 46.0.
Knoch's Artie Black managed his usual first-place performance in the 1,600 run with a finish of 4:41 and helped the Knights to victory in the 3,200 relay, along with Ben Hutterer, Brian Tackett and Kyle Reeping. The foursome finished with a time of 9:10.
Knoch boys coach Wess Brahler also liked what he saw in Andrew Starr in the hurdles events.
"Andrew won the 110 hurdles (16.56) and set a (personal record) in the 300 at 43.5," said Brahler. "I thought he did well for us today."

Tasha Walls captured both hurdles races for the Raiders.
The senior managed 16.99 in the 100 hurdles and 51.65 in the 300 event.
DaLynn Mills (100, 200) and Jen Boyd (long and triple jumps) each won two individual events as well.
"We moved some girls around today, putting them in some events they're not used to," said Roccia. "Like DaLynn, she's not used to running the 200."
Knoch's individual winners included Audrey Scott in the 3,200 run, Kristin Robb in the 400 run, Carol Cress in the shot put and Sarah Cooper in the javelin.
Both Seneca Valley and Knoch will be competing at the Mars Invitational Friday.
