Butler chases indoor glory

Tornado have 23 at state track championships

BUTLER TWP — Butler High School has 23 athletes — 13 girls and 10 boys — competing in the Pennsylvania Track & Field Coaches Association Indoor Championships Sunday at Penn State University.

The Golden Tornado girls will compete in the 800 meters, shot put, 4x800, 4x400 and 4x200 relays.

Jena Reinheimer is Butler's shot put qualifier. Her best throw this season is 40 feet, one inch. She is chasing Bri Lumley;'s school in door record of 41 feet.

Liz Simms is the qualifier in the 800 meters. She broke her own school indoor record in the event this season, running a 2:18.97.

Maggie Welty, Erin LeMay, Simms and Chesna Tomko comprise the Tornado's 4x800 relay. Maddie Tonini, Simms, Chesna Tomko and Gabrielle Boden run the 4x400 while that same quartet runs the 4x200.

Butler's boys have qualifiers in the 1,600 meters, pole vault, distance medley relay and 4x400 relay.

Noah Beveridge has a spot in the fast heat of the mile run. Brett Brady will join him in that event. Jack Codispot will compete in the pole vault.

The Tornado's distance medley relay team of Brady, Jake Wolfrum, Tim Porter and Beveridge won the TSTCA championship and set the school record. Their time of 10:33.94 is fourth-best in the state entering Sunday's meet.

Butler's 4x400 relay unit is Cade Gratzmiller, Ryan Marcella, Beveridge and Wolfrum. They had a school-record run of 3:31.82 last week.
