Trivino's no-no sparks 7-0 SRU
Junior right-hander Lou Trivino tossed the Slippery Rock University baseball team’s first no-hitter since 2003 in The Rock’s 10-0 victory over Bloomsburg Saturday at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Sutherland, Va.
Trivino faced just two batters over the minimum, striking out seven and walking a pair.
His feat included eight groundouts and six flyouts.
He was supported by catcher Ryan LaRose, who singled twice, doubled and collected five runs batted in. First baseman John Shaffer added three hits and two RBI.
Before Saturday, SRU’s most recent no-hitter came when Mike Sikorski stifled Kutztown’s offense in a 2-1 win in the 2003 NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional Tournament.
Sunday morning, The Rock defeated Mansfield 5-3, with Jake Weibley smacking a three-run home run.
Then, in a game begun Saturday but suspended after three innings due to darkness, SRU tallied two runs in the top of the seventh inning to again knock off Bloomsburg, this time by a 3-2 count.
Will Kengor drove in the tying run with a single before Kevin Jovanovich’s one-out sacrifice fly scored the eventual winning run.
