230 jobs expected at new FedEx center
JACKSON TWP — The new FedEx distribution center on Tomlinson Drive is expected to bring about 230 jobs to Butler County.
FedEx spokesman David Westrick said today that 139 employees in other Pittsburgh FedEx locations have been offered the chance to relocate to the township center, which has a planned August opening.
No job losses are expected from the move.
“The big thing is this is a growth story. We're adding another facility and not closing anything,” Westrick said.
The employees will come from FedEx centers in Clinton and Greensburg and on Neville Island.
Westrick also said about 90 new jobs total will be created.
Earlier reports from township officials and others said the distribution center might have 400 to 500 employees. Westrick would not elaborate on those earlier projections.
“We wait until we're very close to opening to set those projections,” he said.
The distribution center will have about 300,000 square feet of space. A 20,000-square-foot addition for lab testing not in the original design is also planned.
