Police: Man hit his wife
CRANBERRY TWP — A township man faces simple assault and harassment charges after what police described as a domestic incident last month.
Police have accused Jonathan Allan Wheeler Jr., 30, of beating his wife, Cheyenne Wheeler, during an argument in their home March 26. He waived his charges to county court April 7. He was released on $15,000 bail.
Cranberry Township police responded around 12:51 a.m. March 26 to a domestic disturbance at a home on Whitetail Ridge. There they found Wheeler attempting to load a vehicle and leave while his wife was inside.
According to court papers, Cheyenne Wheeler said her husband Jonathan Wheeler was dropped off at the residence by his girlfriend shortly before midnight while she was lying in bed with her children.
Jonathan Wheeler entered the home and saw several packed boxes in the living room, so he confronted his wife and an argument ensued, she told police.
During the argument, Jonathan Wheeler grabbed the phone from Cheyenne and began striking her on the back of the head, neck and shoulders with a closed fist. When his wife attempted to get away, Jonathan Wheeler placed her in a head lock and proceeded to choke her, according to court papers.
When he released her, Cheyenne Wheeler went into the bathroom with another cell phone and called her grandmother, who called 911 on her behalf, police said.
When his wife left the bathroom, Jonathan Wheeler grabbed the phone from her and produced a steak knife, pointed it at her and threw her onto the bed. He began to hit Cheyenne Wheeler with a closed fist on her right shoulder until he “stormed out” and attempted to gather his belongings and leave, police said.
Cheyenne Wheeler said her husband threatened to kill her during the confrontation. Police said she was found to have injuries to the back of her neck and right shoulder, coinciding with her account of the altercation. A steak knife was also found in the upstairs bathroom.
Jonathan Wheeler will be arraigned May 16 in county court.
