A former employee of Chicora Sporting Goods & Sandwich Shop is in a showdown with the shop.

On Feb. 7, Samuel A. Donelly, 27, of Pittsburgh was arraigned on charges that he stole a gun from the store's stock. That same day, Donelly brought his own legal action against the business by filing a civil complaint claiming the establishment had several items he owned valued at $12,000.

Last June, Donelly was fired when a gun went missing from the store, according to a police report. The police report said that Donelly was in charge of logging purchased guns into the system.

When police spoke with Donelly, he admitted to possessing the missing gun, a Citadel 1911, but he told police a customer had given him the gun when he worked there.

The shop currently has three Citadel 1911s, ranging in price from $625 to $800.

Donelly couldn't produce any evidence supporting his claim and was charged with theft and receiving stolen property. He was subsequently released on his own recognizance.

Using the gun's serial number, police determined that the gun was sold to Chicora Sporting Goods at the end of 2017.

In Donelly's action, he alleges the store is “withholding personal possessions purchased and owned by (me), including but not limited to machinery and equipment used in (my) line of work.” Donelly is seeking $12,000.
