Fire destroys East Butler garage

EAST BUTLER — A fire Wednesday destroyed a detached garage and damaged the siding of a neighboring garage. Nobody was injured in the fire at the garage behind a home at 907 Madison Avenue, said Derek Thompson, chief of the East Butler Volunteer Fire Department. From the window of her home, the homeowner saw smoke and flames coming from the garage and called 911, Thompson said. The small garage was used for storage and contained a few items, but no vehicles were inside, Thompson said. The garage had electric service, he added. Firefighters arrived shortly after the fire was reported around 6:30 p.m. and found “heavy fire” coming from the garage, but were able to extinguish the flames in three or four minutes, he said.

Also responding to the fire were the Oneida Valley, Lick Hill and Herman volunteer fire departments.
