Tourney will help humane society
The mighty delivering power between private and public companies will be on display Saturday when the U.S. Postal Service goes against the United Parcel Service in a golf tournament at Krendale Golf Course
The United Postal Golf Tournament will pit 22 post office workers and 22 UPS workers against each other, with the proceeds going to benefit the Butler County Humane Society.
“The guy from UPS (Jarid Huth) and I have been badgering each other for months. He's a big golfer I'm a semi-golfer. And we were never putting dates on calendars so finally we said, May 5, let's do this,” said Lee Mohn, 56, of Butler, a mail processing clerk with the post office. “We threw in funding for the Humane Society because we love dogs so much.”
The brown shirts and blue shirts are pay $60 each to participate. Mohn invited anyone who is interested in watching the two delivery service titans yell fore at each other. The event starts around 8:30 a.m. and will last until about 1 p.m. The money raised will be delivered to the Humane Society.
“We're very excited and appreciative. We're a nonprofit so we keep our doors open for generous donations like this,” said Debbie Aglio, the executive director of the Butler Humane Society. Aglio said the money will be used to buy a transport van for the animals.
The golf winner will be given a keepsake of true distinction.
“We have a trophy,” Mohn said. It's from one of our guys. He got a baseball trophy in the 6th grade and he gave it to us so we have a trophy for this thing.”
