Connoquenessing man charged after altercation with woman

PENN TWP — A suspected drunken driver is accused of yanking a friend off the hood of his car and dragging her off the road during a weekend altercation.

Penn Township police arrested James V. Young, 58, of Connoquenessing Township following the fracas with Roxanne Slusher that began about 6 p.m. Friday after they left the Beacon Hotel in the township.

While in Young’s 1996 Ford Mustang, the two got into an argument during which the woman hit the defendant on the head as he drove on Beacon Road, according to court documents. He stopped the car and told Slusher to get out.

When the woman refused, police said, Young “physically removed” her. But that did not end the clash.

After Young returned to the car, “Slusher jumped on the hood on the car,” according to documents. The defendant got out and “pulled her off by her feet” and dragged her off the road.

The alleged victim started to walk away but Young coaxed her back into the car, police said. Police subsequently stopped the suspect’s car on Meridian Road in Butler Township.

Police said the defendant, who smelled badly of alcohol, admitted to having “a couple” of drinks. He was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

District Judge Kevin O’Donnell arraigned Young on charges of DUI, simple assault and reckless endangerment and careless driving. He remains free on $1,500 bail.
