MUDDY CREEK SUPERVISORS

Voters will elect a supervisor in the Nov. 5 election from two candidates: Republican Rick Saunders and Democrat Mike Hart.

The Butler Eagle asked the candidates three questions.

QUESTION: Why are you running for election?

HART: I moved to Muddy Creek Township when I met my wife, a life-long resident of Muddy Creek Township. The rural character of the area was a huge plus for me to establish and raise a family in this type of environment. My hope is to help preserve the area as a rural area.

SAUNDERS: No response.

QUESTION: What are your top three priorities if you win election?

HART: 1. Spend (or more importantly save) the taxpayers money wisely.

2. Preserve the rural characteristics of the community.

3. Ensure that the recent influx of Marcellus Shale drilling is handled properly and fairly.

SAUNDERS: No response.

QUESTION: What part should local government play in overseeing natural gas drilling activity in your municipality, including how impact fee money should be spent?

HART: Local government should be the first and most influential voice in the drilling. It has a major impact on the locality first and foremost and therefore the local residents should have the most influence on how it is handled. The municipality is operating on the current tax revenue so there needs to be a commitment not to just freely spend the increase revenue just because it’s there.

SAUNDERS: No response.
