Center budget to remain same

Property taxes stay at 2.75 mills

CENTER TWP — The township’s budget is expected to stay the same next year, with the exception of its new contract with township workers.

According to the township’s proposed budget, which was distributed at the supervisors’ meeting Wednesday evening, the total estimated revenue for 2014 is a little more than $1.7 million, about what it has been each of the past two years.

The supervisors expect the township to earn $985,000 of that in earned income tax.

The township and Butler School District evenly split income from a 1 percent earned income tax levy.

The income from this source represents 64 percent of the township’s total revenue.

The real property taxes will remain at 2.75 mills for 2014. The township looks to bring in $223,000 from property taxes.

A mill equals $1 in tax revenue for each $1,000 in a property’s assessed value.

All other taxes, including real estate transfer, local services, business privilege, and mercantile taxes, will remain at the same rates as 2013.

The only major change to the budget comes from the new contract between the township and its workers, which was agreed upon in September.

The new contract is a three-year extension of their current agreement, giving workers a 3 percent raise next year, followed by 1 percent raises in 2015 and 2016.

Supervisors will vote to adopt the budget Dec. 11.
