No tax hike for SR Township
SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Property taxes in the township will stay the same next year.
Township supervisors on Monday approved a $735,700 budget with a tax rate of 2.25 mills.
A mill generates $1 in tax for every $1,000 of a property’s assessed value.
“That’s been about 22 years since there has been a tax increase,” said Supervisor John Hines.
The township is projecting $75,000 in income from Act 13 Marcellus Shale natural gas impact fees. Hines said that money will be used on road materials and maintenance.
Hines also said that there will be about a $20,000 decrease in health insurance spending.
Additionally, an employee recently retired and Hines said the township may not refill that position. He said it will consider whether that position is essential.
“It’s a very, very comfortable budget,” Hines said. “We’re very fortunate.”
This year’s budget is $843,000 with the same tax rate.
