Alice Verne "Vernie" Holly McNiel, 85, of Hovey Township, Parker, died Tuesday evening at the Clarion Hospital following an illness.

Born March 23, 1921, in Cokeville, she was the daughter of Arthur and Vera McLaughlin Long.

She was a Protestant.

Mrs. McNiel was a licensed practical nurse, and was employed for years at the Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

In addition to enjoying fishing, she created masterful pieces of needlework and creative gardens.

Surviving are a daughter, Andrea "Andy" Muller of Hovey Township; two grandsons, and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her last husband, William D. McNiel, and was the last member of her family.
