Winfield Township releases preliminary 2027 budget with no expected tax increase

Minimal changes are expected in next year’s Winfield Township budget.

A preliminary version of the budget was made public at the most recent supervisors meeting Thursday night, Oct. 29.

The 2027 budget is not expected to include an increase to the township’s overall real estate tax rate of 6 mills, which includes a 5.5-mill real estate tax and a 0.5-mill EMS tax, which was implemented for the 2026 fiscal year.

The preliminary budget for the township anticipates a slight surplus of $48,191.99, with projected expenditures of $980,221.88 offset by expected revenues of $1,028,413.87.

The majority of the projected revenues for 2027 are expected to come from taxes in the amount of $513,631.45. An additional $486,631.45 is expected from earned income tax.

A large chunk of the township’s projected expenditures will be dedicated to road maintenance, with a total of $438,097.13 set aside for “public works, highways and streets” purposes — an increase from the $365,021 that was budgeted for 2026. Of that, $105,000 is dedicated to snow removal, while $177,747.13 is earmarked for road repair.

Also, $93,000 will be set aside for public safety, including $78,000 in expenditures and donations related to the various volunteer fire companies that serve the township.
