Slippery Rock University graduates move their tassels during 2012's fall commencement in Morrow Field House. The 2013 fall semester commencement is set for Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK — By mid-afternoon Saturday, there will be 480 new Slippery Rock University alumni.

That is because the annual fall semester commencement will be at 11 a.m. in Morrow Field House. Tickets are required and have been distributed to all graduate candidates.

Cheryl Norton, SRU president, will oversee the ceremonies and offer remarks.

Wilma Cavil, the longest serving faculty member in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and an SRU assistant professor of safety management, will be grand marshal. Cavil joined the SRU faculty in 1958.

Cadets in SRU’s Army Reserve Officer Training Corps will present the colors.

Robert Taylor, chairman of the SRU council of trustees, will bring greetings from the council.

Philip Way, provost and vice president for academic affairs, will present the candidates for degrees, which will be conferred by Norton.

Don Huddart, a 1987 SRU graduate and the treasurer of the SRU Alumni Association, will induct the new graduates as members of the association.

Music will be provided by the SRU student brass quintet comprised of music majors.

The “Star-Spangled Banner” and the SRU “Alma Mater” will be sung by the SRU men’s quartet that includes Craig Allison from Evans City.

A reception for graduates and their guests will follow in the GrasTex area of the field house.

Commencement rehearsal is at 1:30 p.m. Friday in the field house.
