Two reportedly injured after shots fired in downtown Butler
Reported gunfire near 400 W. North St. caused an emergency response Thursday night, Nov. 5.
The first reports of a shooting came through emergency service dispatch reports around 6:45 p.m. Two patients were reportedly transported from the scene — one to Allegheny General Hospital and one to Butler Memorial Hospital.
A man named Dreyvin, who lives near the scene and declined to give a last name, said he witnessed a confrontation between a group of three people and another individual which occurred before he heard gunfire, although he did not see the actual shooting.
“There were four kids fighting, who couldn’t have been older than 20, and they tried to jump one guy,” Dreyvin said. “Then he got back in his car and left. And then, like, two minutes later, four or five shots rang out, then I heard tires squealing.”
Jacob Trinkley, who says he made the first call to police to report the shooting, said he managed to talk to one of the victims as she was being loaded into an ambulance and she told him she was OK.
“I actually just talked to the woman who was just shot and I happen to know her,” Trinkley said. “She said, ‘I’m OK, I got grazed.’ … Don’t use guns, guys. It doesn’t get you nowhere and it hurts your loved ones.”
The intersection of West North and Chestnut streets is blocked off by caution tape and a heavy police presence as of 8 p.m. Thursday.
Police at the scene declined to comment.
Units from Butler city and Butler Township police were at the scene, as well as the City of Butler Bureau of Fire and two ambulances from Butler Ambulance Service.
