Grove City woman charged in April death of 34-year-old woman
A Grove City woman is accused of administering substances that killed a 34-year-old woman in April and removing items from her home after her death, police said.
Amanda Lynn Karwowski, 34, was charged Oct. 20 in the death of Chloe Wiley, 34, who was found April 11 in a West Main Street apartment in Grove City. Wiley died of combined drug toxicity, according to the Mercer County Coroner’s Office.
Karwowski is charged with one felony count each of drug delivery resulting in death and voluntary manslaughter, and one misdemeanor count each of involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence after Grove City police said what they witnessed on security footage contradicted her statement.
Police responded to the Grove City apartment April 11 and were met outside by an upset Karwowski. Police spoke with her and then went inside and found Wiley, who police said had been dead an extended period of time.
Karwowski told police she had been alone with Wiley the night before, and the two had used marijuana. She told police she left the apartment between 3 and 4 a.m. and went back the next day when she hadn’t heard from Wiley. She also said she was alone when she found Wiley, according to police.
Police later searched Karwowski’s phone and found texts between her and Wiley about using methamphetamine and fentanyl. Police also viewed security footage that showed a man arriving at the apartment with Karwowski. The man left about the same time Karwowski called 911. The footage also showed Karwowski leaving the apartment with large black bags which she did not arrive with, police said.
Police interviewed the man but did not charge him.
The man said he left the apartment around 4 or 5 a.m. the day of the incident, and that Wiley and Karwowski were sleeping when he left.
Karwowski is being held in Mercer County Jail with bail denied. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Nov. 18 before District Judge Douglas Straub.
