Veterans Memorial Park reopening in Zelienople
There will be a rededication ceremony for Veterans Memorial Park in Zelienople at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. In addition, a time capsule, which was discovered inside the base of the World War I monument, will be opened at 11 a.m. at the Zelienople Historical Society.
The renovation was a joint venture between The Sons of the American Legion Squadron 474, Zelienople Revitalization, Tom Murray of the Murray Agency and Zelienople Borough.
When the monuments were being moved and restored off-site, a time capsule was discovered inside the base of the World War I monument. This monument was originally dedicated Oct. 15, 1919, sealed for 107 years.
The community supported the estimated $350,000 renovation, with Tom Murray donating $50,000 to the project.
