Cranberry man named to disciplinary board

It probes conduct of attorneys, judges

HARRISBURG — Douglas Leonard, 51, of Cranberry Township has been appointed to the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board, according to an announcement made by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts.

Leonard, who was appointed to complete the remaining term of Robert Storey, expiring April 1, 2010, was appointed as one of the board's two non-lawyer members.

He works for an international consulting firm based in Delaware, flying around the country to meet clients, but he has a background in the legal system.

Leonard worked for a Pittsburgh law firm for three years in the mid-1980s. Then he served as the courts administrator for Allegheny County from 1990 to 1996.

During that time, he also served on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Association of Court Management and was president in his sixth year.

Leonard, who is a certified mediator in legal matters, said, "I'm looking forward to serving very much, but I have no idea whether I will seek reappointment (in 2010)."

The board investigates the conduct of anyone subject to the Pennsylvania Rules of Disciplinary Enforcement, such as attorneys or judges, who committed violations before taking the bench.
