Drilling fee funding OK'd
Most of Butler County’s $1 million in natural gas drilling impact fee money for 2013 is going to be used for emergency services, the bridge program and the capital reserve fund.
The county commissioners on Wednesday approved the allocations.
The largest amount, $387,000 goes toward emergency services.
Steve Bicehouse, emergency services director, said the money will pay for emergency preparedness planning, state funding shortfalls and the salary of an emergency planner for 2014 and 2015.
The county bridge work program received the second largest allocation at $250,000.
The third highest amount, $183,930, will be placed in the county capital reserve fund.
Most of the remainder, $146,000, is split between information technology, human services and drug court.
The final $35,000 is dedicated to the Chicora stormwater project.
These allocations fall under the following seven of 13 accepted uses under Act 13, the state’s oil and gas drilling law: emergency preparedness and public safety, infrastructure work, capital reserve fund, delivery of social services, judicial services, records management, and water, sewage and stormwater work.
