PNC must sell 2 county National City branches
PITTSBURGH — Butler's Center Avenue and Cranberry Township's Route 19 branches of National City Bank are to be sold to a new bank chain.
Fred Solomon, spokesman for PNC Bank, explained Friday that those are the only two National City branches that will change ownership at this time.
The move is part of PNC's $5.6 billion buyout of National City Bank and is ordered by the U.S. Department of Justice.
PNC must sell a total of 61 National City branches to ensure that the Pittsburgh banking chain doesn't overwhelm a community with its assets or investments.
Other sales will occur in other parts of Pennsylvania, including Erie, Washington, Crawford, Westmoreland, Fayette and Warren counties.
Butler's two branches that will be part of the sale are 364 Center Ave. in Butler and the Cranberry Mall National City Bank at 20111 Route 19.
As for the situation on Butler's Jefferson Street and Main Street intersection, where a National City branch sits catty-corner to a PNC branch, Solomon said there could be "additional consolidations" later, but that he had no information on the two banks.
