SRU warns of reported assault
State police are investigating an alleged assault at an apartment in Slippery Rock.
Slippery Rock University issued a statement to students Sunday morning about the incident, during which two men allegedly assaulted someone with a knife at the University Village Apartments, which is unaffiliated with the university, but serves as off-campus housing for students. The assailants were described as Black men.
“No other descriptions of the alleged assailants are available at this time,” the alert said.
Police on Monday said little is known about the suspects.
According to the university alert, the men allegedly entered the apartment, where they held a victim at knifepoint before leaving.
The alert said Slippery Rock University Police assisted state police at the scene.
According to a report by the Rocket, SRU's student newspaper, campus police received a call about the alleged assault at 4:21 a.m. and were on the scene by 4:30 a.m.
At the time, the statement recommended that people in the vicinity should lock their doors.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Butler barracks at 724-284-8100 or university police at 724-738-3333.
