Opal Glackin

Glackin

Opal D. Glackin, 91, of Cranberry Township, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026.

Opal grew up on a rural farm in the Appalachian Mountains near Chaneysville, Pa. She attended a one-room schoolhouse. Those early years helped shape the independence, determination and work ethic that would define her life.

Opal devoted approximately five decades to her career with PNC Bank in Pittsburgh. Brilliantly boring she was not. A member of the Greatest Generation, she rose from humble beginnings and embraced opportunities to see the world, traveling with the love of her life and late husband of 37 years, Paul Bernard Glackin Sr. Together, they visited scores of countries across Europe, as well as Russia, China and other exotic locales. They especially enjoyed cruises, the shipboard entertainment and plentiful buffets. Opal also loved ballroom dancing and shared that passion with Paul, with whom she competed in local dance competitions. Together, they cut a rug.

A faithful Catholic, Opal was a devoted parishioner of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Cranberry Township and rarely missed a Mass. Family and friends remember her determination, her occasional stubborn streak and the unforgettable grenadine-laden fruit salad she prepared for Thanksgiving. There was never enough of it, despite her best efforts.

From the Pennsylvania farm where her story began to the far corners of the world she loved to explore, Opal led a remarkable life on her own terms. Her independence, faith and grit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bernard Glackin Sr., who passed away in 2002.

She is survived by her only son, Christopher S. Glackin; and three stepdaughters, Judith M. Sedwick, Kristine L. Rockwell and Patricia A. Griffiths.
