Clinton Township to hold public hearing Oct. 26 on updating comprehensive plan

Clinton Township is looking to update its comprehensive plan for the first time since 2017 and the public will get a chance to comment on it at a special meeting at 3:15 p.m. on Monday at the township building.

A comprehensive plan is an official, but nonbinding, document which lays out a municipality’s long-term vision for land use and development. Municipalities rely on them to make development decisions.

According to recently appointed township manager Clinton Bonetti, the township is merely refreshing the comprehensive plan that already exists, rather than completely overhauling it.

The township’s seven-member planning commission is responsible for the changes.

“They’re providing updates for the next 10 years,” Bonetti said.

A draft version of the updated comprehensive plan is available for viewing on Clinton Township’s website.

Section 12, “The Future of Clinton Township,” outlines 10 goals for the township’s next decade. These include preserving the township’s open space and farmland, developing and enhancing recreational opportunities, developing and maintaining traffic corridors and roads and maintaining and expanding the township’s economic base, which includes the Victory Road industrial park.
