Man arrested for allegedly punching door, breaking in
A Butler man was arrested and charged after he allegedly broke into a city home Tuesday night.
City police have charged Michael G. Watt, 44, of Butler, with felony criminal trespass as well as summary charges of public drunkenness and criminal mischief. After his arrest, Watt was taken to Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.According to charging documents, a friend of the victim called 911 around 7:52 p.m. Tuesday to report a break-in at the victim's North Main Street apartment. Documents said the caller identified the Watt by his last name and said he was shirtless.Police said they entered the apartment and, upon approaching the second-floor apartment, they noticed a large hole in the door and fresh blood spatter on the wood.“Through the gaping hole, I could clearly see a shirtless white male saunter through what appeared to be a kitchen area and off to the right side, out of view,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit.Documents said police entered the apartment and arrested Watt without incident, but he was believed to be under the influence of a narcotic.Police said Watt told them he knew the man who lived at the apartment, and he had been looking for his girlfriend. Police said Watt also admitted to recently using drugs.“I could clearly see fresh blood spots on Watt's pants, and the knuckles of his right hand had fresh wounds consistent with having caused the damage to the door,” police said.According to documents, the damage to the door was estimated at $200.A preliminary hearing for Watt has not yet been scheduled.
