Panel OKs project

71 new homes proposed

CRANBERRY TWP — A new residential development that could include 71 units along Darlington Road received approval Tuesday night from the township planning commission.

Called the Glen at Woodside, the development now will go before the township supervisors later this month.

The project will be given the green light if the supervisors accept the planning commission’s recommendation.

Ron Henshaw, director of community development for the township, said he’s been working with the developers for several months.

One of the bigger roadblocks for the Glen at Woodside was the need for pedestrian walkways connecting the development to the nearby Orchard Park and Blue Ridge housing developments.

Township officials and the developers worked out a plan that includes several sidewalks, most of which would be built by the developers.

However, Henshaw said the township might build a small portion of sidewalk that would connect the Glen at Woodside to the neighborhood to the south.

The sidewalks are an integral part of making local neighborhoods walkable, Henshaw said. Because of that, the sidewalks in the Glen at Woodside would connect to other sidewalks that would end more than a half mile away in Graham Park.

Henshaw said that of the 71 units, 40 will be estate houses while 31 will be patio-style homes.

The development is tentatively scheduled to be built by Weaver Master Builders, the same company that built Bellvue Park.
