Deputies bring pair from Fla.

Men accused of robbery

A pair of fugitives are back in frigid Butler County following a short-lived escape to the Sunshine State.

Suspected robbers Isaiah J. Tucker, 25, and Tyler B. Kern, 21, both of Butler, remain in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail each, following their extradition this week from Broward County in Florida.

The defendants made their long-distance getaway by train after allegedly robbing a Butler man Dec. 13 at his auto detailing shop on Pillow Street.

According to court documents, the suspects were drinking with Robert Middendorf when they attacked him, rifling his pockets and taking $1,100 and his wallet.

Middendorf suffered minor injuries.

Police used social media to help identify the alleged strong-arm robbers. On Dec. 15, a tip posted on the department’s Facebook page claimed Tucker and Kern were on an Amtrak train headed to Fort Lauderdale, investigators said.

U.S. Marshals in Florida, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Lauderdale police were contacted and were waiting for the suspects when they arrived later that day.

The pair was arrested without incident and held without bail in the Broward County Jail to await extradition.

Two Butler police officers on Monday flew to Florida and returned Tuesday with their prisoners.

Tucker and Kern were arraigned Tuesday night on charges of robbery and conspiracy. Preliminary hearings are set for 1:30 p.m. Monday before District Judge Pete Shaffer.
