JACKSON TWP — Jordan Harris, Seneca Valley High School senior and homecoming queen, participated in the Liberty Bowl in Tennessee last month, and she brought back plenty of memories.

Jordan, who was crowned homecoming queen in October, attended the college football game along with 90 other homecoming queens from across the country.

She was one of five queens from Pennsylvania to be invited to both pre-game and halftime ceremonies at the game, which took place Dec. 29 in Memphis between West Virginia University and Texas A&M.

She was invited to the game by the American’s Homecoming Queen group, a nonprofit organization that gives college scholarships to homecoming queens.

Jordan, 18, of Zelienople said she won’t be told about the status of a possible scholarship until May, although she plans on attending Liberty University in Virginia next year.

During her stay in Memphis, Jordan visited St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She said that was her favorite part of the three-day trip because she met patients, heard their stories and made crafts with them.

She also enjoyed participating in the Liberty Bowl parade as she rode in a gigantic float with other homecoming queens.

Jordan attended the event with her mother. The pair drove down from Butler County two days before the football game.

“It was a great time being exposed to a lot of different things in downtown Memphis,” Jordan said. “But my favorite part was the visit to St. Jude. It’s such an amazing organization, and we got to hear all the different stories from patients. It was definitely an honor.”

The senior, who will continue her participation in the U.S. Army Reserves when she goes to college, plans on studying mathematics and business in college.

Her parents are Amy Pelletier and Renawn Harris.
