Penn Township hires new chief of police
PENN TWP — Scott Longdon has been named Penn Township Police Department’s new chief.
At the meeting Tuesday night, Oct. 13, the board of supervisors officially approved the hiring of Longdon as the township’s new police chief, effective Monday.
“I’m thrilled to be here,” Longdon said to Penn Township residents at the meeting. “I was born and raised in Penn Township, so this is kind of a homecoming for me. We’ve been very fortunate over the years to have an exceptional and professional police department, and I look to continue that tradition moving forward.”
Longdon, who says he has 26 years in law enforcement, will succeed longtime Penn Township officer Cheryl Cranmer, who was serving as officer-in-charge.
Cranmer announced her retirement in June, but is still working with the township in a part-time capacity to assist in the transition.
“Lucky for everyone here, Cheryl’s agreed to stick around and help transition things, which is great,” Longdon said.
According to township manager Mary Hess, Longdon was chosen from a pool of 35 candidates.
“We had 35 applicants. We narrowed it down to four, and we chose Scott Longdon out of the final four applicants,” Hess said. “(Cranmer) helped us interview and choose the new chief.”
Prior to joining Penn Township, Longdon served as a sergeant for the Jackson Township Police Department. According to Hess, he recently turned in his resignation there.
