County sells 10.8 acres for $30,000

MARION TWP — Butler County sold a 10.8-acre parcel on Campground Road to an Allegheny County man.

Kevin Chechak of Munhall on Nov. 22 submitted the winning bid of $30,000 for the land and a roughly 1,200-square-foot metal building on the property.

The state Department of Environmental Protection previously used the site to treat acidic water draining into Slippery Rock Creek from an abandoned mine.

Ed Rupert, director of county property and revenue, said in a Tuesday interview Chechak beat out eight other bidders.

The initial bid for the land, which had no outstanding real estate taxes, was $10,000.

The county's original plan to sell metal from the site's building was previously scrapped because the building could have been damaged by the removal of items such as water tanks.

The Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission will maintain a right of way on the land for stocking the creek.
