Cranberry sees $115 million in construction during 2014
CRANBERRY TWP — More than $115 million in construction took place in the township last year, a number that was on par with what officials expected for 2014.
Ron Henshaw, the director of community development for Cranberry, briefed the township supervisors earlier this month and said that number includes more than $50 million in residential construction.
In addition, the amount of office space in Cranberry increased by nearly 123,000-square feet, nearly 60,000 of which were for new restaurants.
“In terms of nonresidential building, we’re up to par,” Henshaw said Wednesday. “But on the residential side, especially the single-family homes, the numbers were lower than what we expected.
“The numbers were still strong and we’re still satisfied, but I have to admit I expected them to be stronger.”
However, Henshaw said the construction of rental apartments has continued on pace with what officials expected for 2014.
Henshaw said the township has more than 23,000 jobs in 24 industry sectors, numbers that he said indicate a strong local economy.
