State foreclosures drop 13% in May

HARRISBURG — The number of Pennsylvania homes in foreclosure dropped in May by the biggest percentage in eight months.

New figures out Thursday from foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac show foreclosure filings in Pennsylvania slid 13 percent from April to last month.

All told, just under 4,400 homes received at least one foreclosure filing last month, down from more than 5,000 in April.

Almost 900 of those were seized. Nationally, foreclosure activity also dropped in May, with 6 percent fewer homes in foreclosure.

Pennsylvania's foreclosure rate is about one-third of the national rate, with one in about 1,200 homes receiving a foreclosure filing last month.
