Krebs dealerships to merge, not close
GIBSONIA — A car dealership received a reprieve from Chrysler and will continue to operate.
Chris Krebs, owner of the family's Krebs Dodge dealership in Gibsonia, and his brother, James, owner of Krebs Chrysler Jeep in Glenshaw, both on Route 8, both had been notified of the loss of their dealership licenses, but then were told by corporate headquarters to merge at the Gibsonia site.
Chris said the dealership is now called Krebs Dodge Chrysler Jeep. It opened Friday.
The late William Krebs, the brothers' father, began the dealership with Chrysler in 1963.
"We have to get a new dealership number, and then we're ready to go," Chris said.
Chrysler filed for bankruptcy in May after a government bailout and is being bought by Italian carmaker Fiat. Part of the restructuring plan called for the closing of about 3,000 dealerships nationwide.
