Woman jailed for burglary

Alleged victim's purse missing

A 30-year-old Butler woman with a long list of felony convictions finds herself again jailed — this time for a suspected distraction burglary Monday in the city.

Ricki Lee Double shortly after noon showed up at a woman’s home in 200 block of East Penn Street and asked the resident if she could borrow a hammer, Butler police said. She claimed she locked herself out of her house and needed the tool to get inside.

While the homeowner was looking for a hammer, the suspect, who remained at the door, also asked for a screwdriver. Then, she requested a drink of water, according to court documents.

After obtaining the items, the alleged victim returned to the door. She noticed her purse was missing from the bottom of the staircase.

The purse contained $40, identification cards and other personal items.

The homeowner did not know the suspect but provided a description of the stranger for police. Officers quickly identified Double as the suspect.

The homeowner picked out the defendant from a photo lineup that police prepared, documents said.

Investigators contacted Double who later that day appeared at the police station for questioning. She admitted being at the victim’s house but denied taking the purse.

Police arrested her on charges of burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. She was arraigned and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.

Double’s extensive criminal history shows 24 felony convictions, mostly for forgery.

She is currently awaiting trial on three separate felony cases, according to court records, including one for allegedly scamming an elderly Butler man out $5,770 last year.
