Project may get OK

Village to feature hotel, townhomes

CRANBERRY TWP — Officials with the township expect construction on the Village of Cranberry Woods development to start this year.

Ron Henshaw, director of community development, said construction crews anticipate starting site grading in June or July.

But the project must get approval by the township supervisors, which could happen next week.

Henshaw said the Village of Cranberry Woods, which has been scaled back from its original plan, will have a huge impact on the economy in Cranberry.

“We're still happy with it,” he said. “This is a big deal.”

The plan will include a 10,000-square-foot restaurant, a 110-room hotel and 300 residential units in townhomes and apartments. It will be along Longtree Way and Cranberry Woods Drive on 47 acres on the south side of Route 228.

“We expect it to be under construction by the end of this year, especially the residential units,” he said.

The project is being developed by the Madison Group, although the residential aspect is being handled by a company from Chicago.

Henshaw said if the supervisors grant approval at their Wednesday meeting, it doesn't mean the entire project will be given the green light.

That's because several of the proposed buildings, such as a 37,000-square-foot commercial building and a two-story, 10,000 -square-foot commercial building, don't yet have tenants.

Once tenants are signed, the developers will have to come back for further approval, Henshaw said.

However, other aspects of the project could be given the OK next week, such as the hotel, restaurant and residential buildings.

Township manager Jerry Andree said, “This investment will result in increased employment opportunities for hundreds of residents.”
