Slow Down campaign returns to Cranberry

CRANBERRY TWP — The township is partnering with 24 homeowners associations to get drivers to stop speeding on streets.

Called the Slow Down campaign, the township twice a year partners with these associations when school lets out for the summer and when it goes back in session in August.

The next Slow Down campaign will start June 5.

Assistant township manager Duane McKee said the program has grown in popularity since last year when it had 11 homeowners associations involved.

The program includes yard signs, speed trailers and traffic counters that will be on display for a week. It will also include increased police patrols.

In its fifth year, the Slow Down campaign is intended to “raise driver attentiveness of the need for increased vigilance and speed moderation.”

The program also is called the Drive 25 campaign.

McKee said crews study data from the Slow Down campaign and use it to evaluate the effectiveness of the campaign.

“Whether or not the data provides huge benefits or not, people still think it makes a big difference in their neighborhood,” McKee said.

McKee said he already has nearly 500 yard signs that will be used to remind drivers to slow down.
