25 cents cut from all-day Pittsburgh parking rate

PITTSBURGH — Parking all day in city-owned lots will be cheaper next year.

The Pittsburgh Parking Authority says it will cut its rates for all-day parkers by 25 cents starting Jan. 1. The reduction was in response to Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's request to adjust rates to reflect a cut in the parking tax rate.

The tax will go from 45 percent to 40 percent effective Jan. 1. The authority and private lot operators have been criticized for not reducing rates this year when the tax was cut from 50 percent.

Currently, all-day rates in authority-owned lots range from $9 to 14.

Parking Authority Executive Director David Onorato says he spoke with private lot operators about reducing their rates next year, but they say no.
