CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Allegheny Energy wants to increase its rates 14 percent in West Virginia.

The Greensburg, Pa.-based utility said it filed a request for the increase with the state Public Service Commission on Thursday.

Allegheny said the request would raise its revenue from the state by $122 million. Bills for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a month would increase $12 to $95. Allegheny said the increase would be the first since 1994.
