Trial scheduled for Cabot man charged with corruption of minors

A trial for a Cabot man charged with inappropriately touching a juvenile girl in 2023 is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Butler County Common Pleas Court.

Michael G. Saunders, 50, was charged with a felony count of corruption of minors and a misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a person under 16 by Buffalo Township police in 2024.

Jury selection is scheduled for Wednesday.

According to an affidavit, a juvenile girl said in a Sept. 24, 2024, interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center that Saunders put his hand under her shirt and placed it on her stomach on Oct. 1, 2023, in Sarver.

At a hearing Tuesday, prosecution and defense attorneys briefly discussed motions. Defense attorney Chelsie Friend said she filed a motion for the district attorney’s office to disclose its list of witnesses for the trial.

Assistant District Attorney Laura Pitchford said she will provide the list in accordance with rules of evidence. She also said she had no preference about questioning of potential jurors being conducted individually or with all the potential jurors present.

Judge Joseph Kubit said juror questioning will be addressed Wednesday.
